Please tell us about yourself and what brings/brought you to Amherst?

My name is Corey Hunter, and I was born and raised in Amherst. After living and working in other cities around Atlantic Canada, I returned to Amherst in 2019 to have more quality time with family. Moving back allowed me to enjoy time with my father before he passed away, and I continue to enjoy restaurants, shops, and beautiful parks with my mother. For me, Amherst has always been a fun place to cultivate lasting friendships. Within this town I find there is a sense of community, and a lot of opportunity to become involved in it’s growth.

What do you hope for your future here?

I hope to continue to have a safe and healthy home in town where I can share my time with friends and family. I am fortunate to have roots and connections here, which I look forward to nurturing.

What inspires you in the community?

I have been inspired multiple times over by the generosity and kindness of many of our community members. Having had the pleasure of working with many volunteers, I am consistently impressed by how much people care about one another, and how it has fostered great change in our community over the years with the development of new resources and initiatives.

What aspects of the community have you found the most welcoming or enjoyable?

Our town is a beautiful place with lovely parks and historic buildings; I’m especially fond of time at our Bird Sanctuary and the Downtown core, but what makes it special are the people who live, work, and play within it. The many shops, local initiatives and events, and the work of our Town to create a more inclusive community through Inclusion and Poverty Reduction committees are all exceptional examples of how our citizens aim to welcome their neighbours and guests into our community.  

What have you liked about working with Casey Realty?

Casey Realty purchased my building while I was already residing in it, and they made the transition to new ownership very smooth. In addition to honouring my lease agreement, they have provided prompt service whenever repairs or assistance has been needed, and been very communicative about updates to our building or changes in how it’s being managed. Their staff have been friendly to speak with, and their efforts have provided us with a home that is effectively managed and being cared for.
